Industrial Steel Adaptable Box | Ceiling Rose | Canopy | Enclosure | Junction Box
'How can I conceal my LED driver?'
'I can't fit my LED driver into the ceiling cavity and it's ugly, where can I hide it?'
If you've found yourself here, it may be because you've asked yourself these questions recently. We’ve already asked ourselves those very things, which is why we came up this custom steel enclosure.
Our Industrial Steel Adaptable Box Canopy was originally designed for use with our Linear Wood Beam LED Pendant Light No.3. The slimline low voltage light fitting has no onboard facility to house an LED driver or other electronics, so we set about the task of designing a box that would store all of the components we required. It also had to complement the industrial look and feel of the rest of our work. Most adaptable boxes or surface mounted junction boxes are generally made of tasteless white plastic or galvabond steel and have little to zero design aesthetic. They aren’t designed to look good, they are built for functionality. They also serve no other function, other than to house electronics or terminate connections.
The purpose of our product was to provide a secure housing for drivers and electronic devices in an enclosure that not only fits in seamlessly with robust industrial decor, but that also functions as a suspension point. This is an ideal option when you have no access to the ceiling cavity and need somewhere to store the electronics out of sight. There's nothing worse than a beautifully designed light fitting with a less than attractive driver screwed to the ceiling beside it. The enclosure also provides the facility for the electronics to be stored in an upright position. This is crucial for optimal operation in many models, and in some cases, absolutely essential.
The ceiling canopy is constructed from hot-rolled mild steel plate and 8mm eyebolts. It attaches to a steel backplate via four high tensile bolts. The back-plate provides multiple anchoring points to allow installation onto timber, masonry, concrete etc. It's also compatible with 3½" and 4½" US-style ceiling boxes, making it suitable for use in both 120V and 240V countries. The box that mounts to the ceiling and the lid both have their own dedicated ground/earth terminals. On the inside of the canopy faceplate, there is a detachable gear tray that provides the anchoring point for LED drivers or any other required electrical components. Drivers and receivers are not supplied as standard but can be purchased and mounted separately.
The box is vented to allow adequate airflow and has the facility for cables to enter from the top or via cord grips from the sides. The ceiling canopy and hardware are finished in a black oxide patina and sealed with oil then buffed matte to provide an industrial look and feel. The mounting plate is powder-coated in a vintage style wrinkle black finish. Find out more about the product and download the instruction manual here.
