A washer is normally used to distribute the load of a threaded fastener, such as a screw or nut. Other uses are as a spacer, a wear pad, preload indicating device, a locking device, and to reduce vibration.
To complement our range of Square Head Lag Bolts and Machine Bolts, we have sourced a range of industrial black oxide shim | rub washers. These come in a variety of sizes to suit various applications such as furniture construction, woodworking projects, lighting design, and any general vintage industrial project.
We strongly suggest the use of a rub/shim washer when using any square-headed nut, bolt, or screw.
Due to the nature of square-headed hardware – a circular score can be marked on the surface of the material that you are tightening onto. This is commonly referred to as ‘scrubbing’.
These washers provide a thin spacer, allowing the head to not bind to the surface material.
